Heart Attack Symptoms for Women

Women having a heart attack suffer many different symptoms than men.  They usually ignore the symptoms and are more likely to die as a result.  The National Research Institute of Health did a study on 515 women and found that the symptoms were present a month or longer before women sought attention.

The symptoms most commonly reported were unusual fatigue (70.6 percent), sleep disturbance (47.8 percent) and shortness of breath (42.1 percent).  Chest pain was not listed as a symptom from any of the women.  Many of the women complained of indigestion, weakness in the arms and sleep disturbances which can happen on a daily basses to any of us.  It has been difficult to pin point when the symptoms are a sign of a heart attack or a problem that happens to all of us once in a while.

It is becoming increasing apparent that men and women do not have the same symptoms.  Women tend to be about ten years older when getting the symptoms of a heart attack and they are more likely to have other health concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.

If you experience pain or discomfort in upper body areas including arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach.  If you have shortness of breath, break out in a cold sweat, are nauseated or experience light-headedness,  beware.  These could all indicate a heart attack.

As with men time is of importance.  Get medical attention immediately.  Even five minutes and make the difference of life and death.
