Drinking and Driving

Drinking and driving is very dangerous.  This has been proven over and over again and people still ignore the facts.  When you are dinking and get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle your brain cannot function correctly.  Our brains deal with a variety of tasks and data every second.  Driving demands attentiveness and making quick decisions based on the circumstances at a specific moment.  Alcohol impairs the skills needed to carry out the maneuvers of driving.

All of us lose some of our attentiveness from time to time when driving.  You will arrive at your destination and wonder how you got from point A to point B.  Fortunately this doesn’t happen often, but imagine feeling like that all the time because of drinking.  It is really scary to think of all the drivers that are not able to adequately manage the vehicle they are driving.

The ability to divide your visual attention between two or more sources of information is impaired by only 0.02 percent or lower of blood alcohol when driving.  When that amount reaches 0.05 the impairment affects the drivers eye moments, reaction time, visual perception and processing of information.   The risks of having a crash increases as the blood alcohol increases and as the driving tasks become more demanding.

Driving while drinking is not just dangerous to you, but to the other people on the road.  They are depending on you to keep your vehicle under control.  If you are unable to do your part then you are a danger to them.  If a drunk driver only hurt themselves and not the innocent lives of others the protest against drinking and driving would not be as strong.  We all live in this world together.  Driving carries the responsibility to protect others as well as ourselves.  When you drink and drive you are not being responsible.
