Livonia, Michigan

Livonia is located in the state of Michigan in Wayne County.  A large suburb of approximately 101,000 residents located about 22 miles from metropolitan Detroit.  The borders of the township were established in 1835 by pioneers from New England and New York.  The name Livonia came from a city in New York, Pennsylvania and the countries of Estonia and Latvia.  Livonia incorporated as a city in 1950 in order to gain tax revenues from the Detroit Race Course.  This was the only thoroughbred horse racetrack in Michigan at the time.  It was closed in 1998.

Livonia has two large malls, Wonderland and Livonia Mall.  Wonderland was an enclosed mall until 2006.  The original mall was torn down and it is now a very large strip mall with Wal-mart and Target as the base stores.   Livonia Mall is an enclosed mall with Sears as its base.  It has not fared very well over the years and has lost many of its stores.  The mall opened in 1964 and closed in 2008.  The new owner of the property is planning to redevelop the property.

Livonia has several colleges and universities.  Madonna University and Schoolcraft College are among them.  Recently Davenport University opened a new campus in the area.  There are five high schools in the city, four are public and one is an all girls catholic school.  Each public school has its own educational program which include Global Education, English and Social Studies, Math, Science and Computers, Creative and Performing Arts and International Baccalaureate.

Livonia is a beautiful community to which to live and work.
