United States Constitutional Convention There have been 26 amendments to the Constitution since it was written in 1787. What does it take to amend this document? The Constitution is one of the most important documents ever written. It grants “We The People” rights under law that cannot be taken away. The Constitutional Conventions are held to get the states together in order to ratify any new amendments. When enough States are in agreement, the Convention is held and the amendment will be put up for voting. It takes three fourths of all the states to ratify a new amendment be added to the Constitution.
