Game 5 was a different story. The Wings got it together and with the return of Datsyuk they creamed the Penguins. Datsyuk has been injured and returned last night with two assists. He is a finalist for the league’s most valuable player award in the regular season. Just 13 minutes into the game Datsyuk set up Don Cleary for the first goal. The Penguins got really frustrated and took many unnecessary penalties. They ended the game with 48 penalty minutes on 12 infractions. After the fifth goal, Fleury was pulled and replaced by Mathieu Garon. Fleury ended up stopping 16 of 21 shots while Chris Osgood stopped all 22
After the game Babcock stated that Datsyuk was one of the best players in the world both offensively and defensively. He has led the team in scoring for the fourth season. Only Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman have accomplished that statistic.
