Red Wing Hockey - Games 4 & 5

Anyone in Detroit watching the Red Wings game 4 on Thursday night thought they were watching a high-school hockey team playing.  They were absolutely terrible.  The Penguins broke the game open with scoring three goals in less then six minutes.  The Red Wings did nothing.  They scrambled around the ice like little kids.   We were lucky to have scored the two goals before the team fell apart.  Again people started talking about the age of the team, but I think they just had a rotten game.

Game 5 was a different story.  The Wings got it together and with the return of Datsyuk they creamed the Penguins.  Datsyuk has been injured and returned last night with two assists.  He is a finalist for the league’s most valuable player award in the regular season.  Just 13 minutes into the game Datsyuk set up Don Cleary for the first goal.    The Red Wings are now up by a game in the Stanley Cup finals,

The Penguins got really frustrated and took many unnecessary penalties.  They ended the game with 48 penalty minutes on 12 infractions.  After the fifth goal, Fleury was pulled and replaced by Mathieu Garon.    Fleury ended up stopping 16 of 21 shots while Chris Osgood stopped all 22 Pittsburgh shots.  The Red Wings rejuvenated their power play and were awarded with 3 power play goals.

After the game Babcock stated that Datsyuk was one of the best players in the world both offensively and defensively.   He has led the team in scoring for the fourth season.  Only Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman have accomplished that statistic.

GO WINGS!!!
