The Simpsons is probably the most popular animated sitcom on television. It is also one of the longest running shows in primetime. This sitcom was created by Matt Groening for the Fox television network. It is about a common middle class family that lives in a town called Springfield. The main characters of the show include the father and mother, Homer and Marge, and their three children, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. As of 2008, the Simpsons began airing their twentieth season on Fox.

Friends is another popular television sitcom. This show first aired on NBC in 1994. This situation comedy was about a group of six friends named Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, and Chandler, who lived in New York City and shared many of life’s personal and humorous moments. Friends ran for ten consecutive seasons before the final episode aired in 2004. An estimated fifty two million viewers watched the final episode.

Another favorite sitcom is Seinfield. The star and co-creator of this show was the well known comedian Jerry Seinfield. It made its first debut on NBC in 1989. Seinfield has often been referred to as the show that’s "about nothing." The setting for this show is an apartment block in New York City.
