Music from the 50s, 60s and early 70s is considered oldies music. This was the era of rock and roll bands that had recordings that skyrocketed off the charts. It seemed like every time you turned around, another band came on the scene and immediately had a number one song.
Some of these groups were The Beatles, The Animals, The Dave Clark Five, The Monkies, Herman's Hermits, and The Rolling Stones. Many of these bands were known as the "British Invasion" and they influenced American rock groups with their hairstyles and songwriting techniques. Some of the American groups were the Beach Boys, the Temptations, the Supremes, Fleetwood Mac, the Jackson Five and many more. These groups became household names. Their concerts were sold out practically before it was announced they were coming to town.
There were also many single artists during this time frame that wrote and performed an excellent mixture of songs. Some of the biggest single artists were Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bill Haley, Petula Clark, John Denver, Pat Boone, and his daughter Debbie Boone. Motown, folk Rock and bubblegum pop music should also be mentioned here. Oldies music is such a conglomeration of music types and styles that there is something for everyone to enjoy no matter what their taste in music.
Although it has been many decades since oldies songs were first released, many people, both young and old, still enjoy their sounds. With the MP3 players available today, oldies music is at your fingertips to rock out to or mellow out to while doing your favorite activity.
