Have you always dreamed of seeing the Hawaiian Islands? Taking a fifteen day cruise to Hawaii is that dream coming true. You can enjoy all the islands without a long plane trip or changing hotel rooms. On a ship you get fed, entertained, pampered and stay in the same cabin for the entire trip. This hotel on water is relaxing, exciting and very enjoyable. Our trip begins in Los Angeles at the dock for the Island Princess. We embark, get our cabin, explore the ship and get ready for dinner. We sail at dusk and have five relaxing days on the ocean. There are so many activities that the days go by very quickly.
Our first stop is Hilo, the county seat and largest town in the Hawaiian Islands. Hilo has the largest mountain in the world, the most active volcano in the world and the highest mountain peak in the pacific basin. Hilo has over 100 inches of rain annually which makes it the wettest city in the USA. Both Hilo and Kona are on the big Island of Hawaii.
Kona is the next island visited. Kona offers pristine beaches, coffee plantations, macadamia nut groves and the largest cattle ranch in the United States. A visit to a coffee plantation is very informative. Picking your activity for the day is difficult due to all the choices available.
Honolulu is next on the agenda. The biggest and most populated city is Oahu. This is the home of the USS Arizona that was sank at the beginning of World War II. The memorial is part of the National Park Service. It is a must for any American that believes in our country. Visiting the memorial is an emotional experience. Among the other possibilities is a Luau with a Polynesian entertainment.
The garden island of Kauai is the next stop on our island visits. This was the first meeting place between the Europeans and the Hawaiians. Captain James Cook anchored off the shores of the Waimea River in 1778 and became the first visitor to the islands. Taking a tour through the botanical gardens, attending a luau with entertainment and renewing your marriage vows were wonderful experiences. The trip to the gardens winds though the city and beautiful countryside.
Maui is our last island stop. Maui has beautiful beaches and stunning landscapes. This is the home to Hawaiian royalty and the great warrior King Kamehameha who united the islands. Among the tours available are whale watching, the ocean center and of course shopping. This island is a tropical paradise and home of the volcano called the Needle.
After seeing all the beauty and wonderful sites of these five ports, we are on our way home. Three days at sea, a short service stop in Ensenada, Mexico and its back to Los Angeles. What a wonderful experience for our 20th anniversary.
