The game of poker has been around for ages but today it is hitting its peak in terms of popularity. There are now many television shows and movies that televise tournament players sitting around a table playing poker. The advent of online poker games has also increased the ease with which people can play the game. Casinos all over the country also provide venues where one can play poker. Playing poker is gambling, however, and while it is illegal in some states to play for money, most people do play poker in their own homes.
There are several variations of the game of poker that people can play, each with its own nuances and strategies. The first type is called "Straight" poker and in this type, all players are dealt an entire hand of cards. You do have the option to raise the bet or re-raise as the opportunity arises. Another type of poker is called "Stud" and in this game, each player receives 7 cards in a particular order. The normal order is face up and face down, alternating with the rounds with betting. Seven-card stud is the most played variant of "Stud" poker. Players receive three cards face down, and four face up, and are trying to make the best hand out of 5 of the cards. The last version of poker that is very popular is called "Draw." Again, each player is dealt an entire hand of cards and, before seeing the cards, they place a bet and then try to make the best hand of 5 cards out of the seven.
