Born in San Fernando, California on July 1, 1927, Patricia Ernst became a famous gothic, romance and mystery writer. She married in 1946 and moved to Arizona where she divorced her husband in 1961. She moved back to California and met her second husband, Clayton Matthews, and married him in 1971. After her marriage she moved to San Diego.
She started writing early in life under the name of Pat Brisco, Patricia Brisco and several others. Her first attempts were poetry, short stories, children books and plays. Her first gothic novels were written under the name of Pat Brisco. After her second marriage she collaborated with her husband on romance and mystery novels. In the 1970”s she wrote over 15 novels including a series about a crime task force in the governors office based in Arizona. She also wrote a series of books for young adults.
She and her husband were considered the top couple in paperbacks. Most of the books that are in her name were actually written by both of them. They traveled extensively to research the books. Millions of her books have been sold world wide. Her series for Pinnacle containing ten books including Love’s Avenging Heart was one of her most successful. She continued to write romance and mystery books until her death in December, 2004. She died at home in California after writing 42 wonderful books.
I have read and enjoyed books written by Patricia Matthews. They are romantic, thrilling and always keep you wondering what was going to happen to the characters.
