Danielle Steel

Danielle Steel is a prolific writer.  She has sold millions of books worldwide in several different languages.  The people who read her books are not just women, but every gender and age.   All of her books have been best sellers and twenty-two have been made into movies for TV.

Danielle was born in New York, NY in 1947.    She lived in France until the age of seven when her parents divorced and she returned to New York.  She attended many schools and majored in literature and fashion design.  She married in 1965, had a daughter in 1968 and was divorced in 1974.  She remarried twice, had another child and divorced before 1981.  .She married again in 1981 to John Traina.  He had two children that she adopted and he adopted her two children.   They had five additional children together.

Her writing career started in 1974 with the novel Going Home.   In 1989 she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having books on the Times Best Sellers List for 390 consecutive months.   Her novels are based partially on her life experiences.   Several of them were written about her children.   As of 2008, she has written seventy two novels.

She founded and runs two foundations for helping others.  One is for the mentally ill and abused children in memory of her son Nick.   The second is for the homeless.  She has been recognized with many awards for both of these foundations.   She has many interests, but her family comes first.
