Kathleen E. Woodiwiss (Kathleen Erin Hogg) was born on June 3rd, 1939, in Alexandria, Louisiana. She is a well-known American writer for romance novels. In 1988, Woodiwiss received a lifetime achievement award for “Romance Writers of America.”
Woodiwiss came from a close-knit family of eight siblings, and was the youngest. Her love for reading, especially romance novels, cultivated when she was a young girl. Kathleen had always wanted to write, and during her husband absences, she would work on her book “The Flame and the Flower.” Her finished novel was presented to eight different publishers, but it was rejected time after time, until she sold it to Avon, a paperback publisher. It was then in 1972 that “The Flame and the Flower” sold over 600,000 copies and Kathleen never had to look back.
Kathleen’s total collections of 14 novels are mostly about romance stories. “The Flame and the Flower,” written in 1972, has sold over 35 million copies across 13 countries worldwide. The story is set in the 18th century about an older man falling in love with a younger girl. The scenes were shot in the U.S. and England.
“A Season Beyond a Kiss” is set in 19th century. This novel shows more violence including kidnapping and killing, but the same as the previous style in that love scenes are described in a detailed manner with descriptive female anatomy.
Kathleen’s last book, “Everlasting,” was published in October, 2007 prior to her death in July of the same year.
